Corporation Parks to get Sewage Treatment Plants

The persistent problems concerning to the pollution of the storm water drains have pushed the Chennai Corporation to kick off its own sewage treatment plants. The planned sewage treatment plants will be soon instigated in the parks, which are under the control of the civic body.

These plants are proposed to treat one lakh litre of sewage. Also, the treated water from these plants will be reused for watering the plants on the same parks, said the Chennai Corporation official.

Presently, many households and commercial institutions have been illicitly chartering the waste water into the storm water drains, thus piloting to pollution in the Adayar, Cooum and Buckingham Canal. Majority of the storm water drains are crammed with sewage. A complex of sewage of treatment plants to foil way in of sewage via storm water drains into Cooum, Adayar and Buckingham Canal will propose a solution, said an official.

The proposal of such sewage treatment plants in many zones across the city is vital for the victory of the Rs.10, 000 Crore project to scour the Cooum.

The civic body will utilize Moving Bed Bio-film Reactor (MBBR) equipment to enhance consistency, makes the operation simpler and trim down space necessities.

These days, the plans for customary wastewater treatment plants were abandoned due to lack of space. The civic body has promoted bids for instigating a municipal waste water treatment plant in a park on the Greams Road.
