In order to assist easy way in pedestrians to the stations, soon skywalks will accomplished near three Chennai Metro Rail stations.

According to the officials of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), both Ashok Nagar and Koyambedu Metro Rail stations will own one skywalk each and the Guindy Metro Rail station will possess two skywalks, one near Guindy Industrial Estate and another near Race Course Road.

Also, the skywalk near the Koyambedu station will link Rohini theatre, and another near Ashok Nagar station will tie with the Udayam theatre.

As commuter finds tough to cross these busy roads particularly during peak hours, civic body indulges bringing in skywalks near these stations. Owing to few issues, the plan of furnishing skywalk near Chennai Central station has been dropped, said the CMRL official.

We decided to accomplish these facilities within 500 meters of every station, so as to promote commuters to walk up to the Metro Rail stations, the official added.

Previously, the skywalk construction work has already commenced at Koyambedu and soon the work will begin in both the Ashok Nagar and Guindy stations.

We are also held up in the plan of introducing subways in few stations along Poonamallee High Road, officials added.

In the interim, edification work is fast moving ahead along the 10 km stretch amid Koyambedu and Alandur line, which is all set to be functioned in about two months.
