On 12th August, Tamil Nadu State Finance Minister, Mr. O. Panneerselvam informed in the Legislative Assembly that a new centre will be created for the welfare of the Tamil community living abroad.
He announced this during the discussions in the assembly on issues of general funds, planning, and financial requests from other departments.
An emigration welfare centre for all Tamil community living abroad is planned. The centre will help in cases of extreme poverty to afford medical care and to bring back the bodies of those who died abroad, if required. The funds will be through the offices of Rehabilitation Centre. A fund of Rs. 1 Crore has been allotted for this purpose.
