With the power generation from wind power stations failing totally well before the end of the season, unannounced power cuts are back in Tamil Nadu!
The public from suburban Chennai inform that there has been 2 to 4 hours of power cut every day.
With the wind speeds coming down well before the season, the expected power generation from the wind power stations has been well below. Over the last 10 days, generation from wind sources has been very poor.
Further, one power generation unit each in North Chennai, Mettur, and Tuticorin have been shut down for annual maintenance. The power from the central grid has also come down.
All these factors have resulted in acute power shortage.
This situation has led to unannounced power cuts. Sometimes power is cut during the nights also in suburban areas. Whereas it is 2 to 4 hours daily in suburban areas, it is more than 6 hours in other districts.
The demand is 12704 MW. The shortfall is 1785 MW.
