The city corporation will start a mass anti-rabies vaccination of 80,000 stray dogs in a few weeks.
Corporation officials said teams will cover every neighbourhood in veterinary hospital vehicles. “We plan to vaccinate 40,000 dogs in three weeks with the help of 45 teams. Each team will consist of vets, dog catchers, and animal care assistants. An equal number of dogs will be covered in the second phase.“
The vaccinated canines would be marked with vegetable dye, said a corporation official. Corporation officials said the canine population and the risk of contracting rabies would be under control in the city after the vaccination drive.
