The ambitious project of Retirement Fund Manager EPFO to set up portable universal PF account numbers (UAN) is expected to get launched very soon, probably by this month.
The launch will be made by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. This however has not got any official confirmation about the exact date of launch.
It is said that the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) together with the labor ministry is in touch with PM’s office for solving this purpose.
Speaking to one of the senior officials at EPFO, he said, it has completed seeding of more than 2.5 crore portable PF accounts with the use of KYC details by the end of August. Furthermore, it is aimed to seed 1 crore UAN within September 15.
The universal number can be used at any place in India and is portable throughout the career of its members.
