Rates of diesel have been continuously increasing all over India and it is likely that it may arrive a stage equivalent to petrol rates. Owing to this reason, those potential car buyers take a slew from picking diesel cars to petrol vehicles. Compared to last year, it is found that there is a 15 per cent increase in purchase of petrol cars.

There is an exorbitant hike in rates of fuel just like gold ornaments. In general, those from middle income group choose to buy petrol cars, as it requires less maintenance cost and as they are available at cheaper rates.

At the same time, owing to lesser price of diesel, people used to buy diesel cars despite high pricing of the vehicle. However, in the recent days, diesel and petrol seem to fall on the same price range. This in turn leaves people choose petrol cars instead of diesel ones.

Stabilization of petrol rates in the recent days is yet another factor contributing to the increasing number of petrol car buyers.

Considering the rate in Chennai, there prevails a difference of Rs 8.68 between petrol and diesel. Hence, those who have an avid view on diesel cars change their mind and focus on petrol cars.

Speaking to one of the leading car dealers in Chennai, he says, in general, those who deal with cars have 65 per cent of diesel cars and only 35 per cent will be petrol cars. Previously, there used to be a difference of Rs 30 between the rates of  petrol and diesel, but now the difference is too low.
