Those distressing no-power hours are likely to be back and the issue seems not to have got solved entirely in Velachery.
The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) points lack of space for carrying out expansion work and old equipments as the reason for frequent electricity troubles in the locality.
Speaking to a top official at TANGEDCO regarding infrastructure developments in the area, he says administrative sanction is provided to construct a new 110/333/11 KV substation within Phoenix Market City Mall. The project estimation is around Rs 74 crore.
Furthermore, an additional transformer having 16 MVA capacity is also proposed for installation at the existing substation where it already has transformers of 16 MVA capacity. He added that necessary steps will be taken in order to ensure uninterrupted power supply in Velachery.
According to the residents’ welfare activists, he blames TANGEDCO for the frequent interruptions in power supply and points that the department is not showing good growth in Velachery locality. The official denied this complaint stating there is no proper plan for making the necessary infrastructure development.
