2.5 lakh vacant positions in railway department

It is found that there are more than 2.25 lakh vacant positions in Railway department. This is said to include top position like Railway Board Member too. Four positions for GM are vacant and several Regional Manager Positions are available too. Owing to this vacant situation, several important decisions are not being taken by the department and are postponed.
The minister of state for Railways, Manoj Sinha said in the parliament that there are 2,25,863 vacant positions as on 1st April 2014.
Staff members at the department complaint that they are not too satisfied with the way railway department is currently functioning. It has become a compulsion to improve the facilities and quality of railway service further to the increase in price of train tickets by BJP. This however is not achieved due to quarrels among officials and increasing number of vacant positions.
More importantly, these vacant positions include engine drivers, station master, signal inspector and other important designations that preserves safety of passengers.
