Following the successful test-run for the super-fast train between Delhi & Agra, Indian Railways have planned to conduct test runs for 8 more routes before December, 2014.
Central Railway Minister, Mr. Sadanananda Gowda, informed:
9 super-fast trains have been planned across the country for 9 routes. And work has been commenced.
In the first stage, the test-run for the super-fast train running at 160 km per hour has been conducted successfully. in July. During the test-run, the train has 10 coaches. It is planned to start services for the super-fast Delhi-Agra trains by November. Similarly, the routes Delhi-Kanpur, Delhi-Chandigarh, Chennai-Hyderabad, Nagpur-Secunderabad, and Mumbai-Goa will also have test-runs planned for super-fast trains before end December. Regular services will commence after successful test-runs.
In order to withstand the high-speed, certain works like improving the existing signalling system, strengthening of rail tracks, building fences alongside the tracks, etc are required to be completed. Even long distance trains like Shatabdi Express can also be run safely on these tracks.
So far, there has been no decision on FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in Railways. However, it has been planned to collect private sector investments up to Rs. 6000 Crores during the current financial year.
Next-generation technology has been introduced by way of on-line booking facility. Now, 7200 tickets can be booked in a minute. Earlier, the speed was only 2000 tickets per minute.
It is a most notable record that 6.25 Lakhs Tickets were booked in a single day throughout India on 27th August.
