The teachers’ selection committee has decided to remove the age limit for the post of Assistant Professors in government engineering colleges.
The Teachers Selection Board had released a notice for filling the 139 vacancies for the post of Assistant Professors in government engineering colleges on 16th June.
This included vacancies in the department of civil, mechanical, electrical, and communication engineering department. It also included the assistant professors for non-engineering subjects such as English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
So far, there had been no restrictions on the age limit for the post of Assistant Professors. However, in the last announcement for filling up these posts (including the reservation quota) for these posts fixed the age limit as 35. The age limit is 37 for the posts of Assistant Professors vacant in government arts colleges.
Age restriction removal
While applications for these posts of Assistant Professors were being distributed, the post-graduate degree holders made a representation to remove the age limit. The last date for application was 5th September.
An official from the Technical Education Committee informed that a decision has been taken to remove the age restriction for the posts of Assistant Professors as per the old practice. Meanwhile, the teachers’ selection board informed that the selection process for these posts is temporarily held up as per the directive from the technical Education Directorate.
It was planned earlier to introduce age limit restriction for the post of lecturers for polytechnics as well. With current developments that the age limit for assistant professors’ post being about to be removed, it is expected that the age limit for the post of lecturers in polytechnics will also be removed.
