As over 900 land acquisition cases are left pending with the high court and Supreme Court, this has eventually resulted in a roadblock standing as a hurdle for road expansion and bridge projects in the state. The state highways department is currently eyeing to set up an exclusive legal cell to take measures for a smoother ride, said a department official.
As the department fails to have enough legal expertise, land acquisition is kept pending for many years now. As per new plans, the new cell will have two wings one of which will have lawyers to deal all legal hurdles and the other wing will have officials specialized in the process of land acquisition.
Sources say over 11594 km is at disposal and Rs1,34,600 crore is to be invested on road sector for the upcoming ten years. A legal cell will be deployed to speed up land acquisition process to handle the legal issues.
