Amidst our fast-paced life journey, Navarathiri brings a quite a relieving celebration to the Chennnaites. People now are gearing up to get their Kolu arranged at home with the graceful blend of tradition and modernity. While most people follow the practice as a tradition, few others from nuclear families start practicing the same on steps just to enjoy the festival and host the event for all their friends and relatives.

More than merely brining the spirit of a festival, Kolu reveals the actual creativity of women in households. Having 5, 7 or 9 step Kolu is now a passé. Those themed kolus are the trending patterns nowadays. All the members of family try to weave the kolu theme using colorful dolls they have with them.

Speaking to one of the residents at Purasawalkam, she says their family focused on Vinayaka as they had couple of Lord Ganesha idols in varied sizes. The idols were displayed in a creatively aesthetic fashion. She adds that they are eyeing on a wedding theme this year.
