As the university couldn’t find its name on the ranking lists of world universities, the Indian Institute of Technology council has come up with plans to draft its own ranking list of all IITs and central universities from next year.
Commenting on the ranking results by foreign ranking agencies, IIT Kanpur Prof Anandakrishnan says the ranking system doesn’t suit any Indian university. He added that a discussion was carried out at the IIT council and the final decision of ranking system is made. He also added that the ranking exercise will be headed by IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras.
It is expected that the university will come up with the ranking framework by March next year. This of course will comprehend with the Indian university parameters.
MHRD Secretary Ashok Thakur says IIT’s generous approach of helping students from poor background is not taken into account while forming the ranking. IITs help diverse students belonging to various backgrounds ejected from economically weak sections in the society. They help them pursue their higher education here, he added.
