The walk area along the Marina sands is set to go green very soon. The promenade stretching for about 6 km starting from Anna square to lighthouse will get lined up with variety of trees that is best suited for growth in coastal areas.
This step is set to be taken further to a complaint raised stating that the pavement on Kamarajar Salai and service lane are being wasted with the growth of only weeds and grass, says an official from the Chennai corporation.
Now, as a step to bring an improvement, the city corporation has plans to plant trees of species Punnai as it is locally called. Commenting about this, Shoba Menon the founder of Nizhal, an NGO says this is a good species of tree. To note, Nizhal is an NGO involved in promotion of tree culture mainly in urban regions.
