Here is an appreciable move by the Chennai Corporation.

Being concerned about proper education to students studying in government schools, the Chennai Corporation has come up with an idea to set up generators to ensure uninterrupted power supply. The civic body has floated tenders for setting generators at 37 schools.

Generators are already functioning in most of the private schools.

Teachers at government schools say they find it difficult to cope with power interruption as students find it difficult to perform laboratory or computer periods.

“We find it difficult to take classes if there is power cut for more than ten minutes. Inadequate ventilation is yet another factor that counts to difficulty in classes when there is power", says one of the teachers.

Adding fuel to the fire is that most of the corporation schools fail to have proper ventilation or lighting facility.
