Chennai Corporation has eyed on three more land areas to set up new Amma Canteen outlets. As per the recent resolution made at a council meet here, the civic body will execute plans conceived by former Chief Minister J Jayalalitha and come up with new low-cost canteens at Korattur, Alandur and Guindy.
Lands belonging to Sri Adikesava Perumal temple at Korattur, Sri Subramaniya Swami Temple on MKN road at Alandur, and SIDCO Industrial Estate near Guindy bus terminus are identified to set up these new outlets. Initiatives are on to procure land spaces here.
The Corporation has plans to gain control over these land spaces for free from the SIDCO and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Administration Department.
Resolution to promote walking:
Further to plans for Amma canteen, the civic body has also adopted to publish the English and Tamil versions of Non-motorized Transport Policy manual (NMT). The policy seeks to bring down the use of self-owned automobiles and boost up modes of walking, cycling and public transport facilities.
The civic body emphasizes this stating the idea as a way to decrease overall air pollution in the city. Introduction of cycle lanes is one of the measures the Chennai Corporation is up to for promoting the move.
