TANGEDCO officials have decided to ask for approval to cut power in the city of Chennai for 1 hour daily on a rotational basis in order to reduce the power-cut for several hours prevailing in other districts.
25% power-cut has been imposed on industries to counter the severe shortage of power from 23rd September.
With the increasing demand for power, 4 to 5 hours of power-cut is being imposed daily in other districts. The resident public as well as the traders have been severely affected by this. Hence, in order to counter the huge shortfall in meeting the demand and to introduce a uniform system of power-cut in the state, TANGEDCO officials have decided to ask the state government to approve 1-hour power-cut to imposed in Chennai city on a rotational basis.
An official informed that the demand is of the order of 2500 to 3000 MW in Chennai. As there are scheduled maintenance schedules in several thermal power generation units, the shortfall of power is set to increase.
