Aavin to shut down milk vending machines in city

By end of this month Aavin has decided to shut down automatic milk vending machines across the city. There are 215 vending machines in the city which supply milk at subsidized rates through cold storage dispensers and not in sachets.

Officials at the state-owned milk cooperative said they were forced to close down vending machines due to increasing maintenance costs. The machines would be removed and the kiosks used to sell sachet milk and other milk products throughout the day. The number of vending machines has increased to 215 over the years. Like cinema theatres and post offices, some of these machines have become the city`s landmarks.
