One among the vegetables that is edible raw is carrot. Kids, children, adults and everyone eat it raw as it has quite a good taste when had so. But here comes information from the food safety officials which will stop us all from consuming it raw. It is found that carrot that is sold in market contains coliform bacteria.
Sources say carrot samples from varied city markets were collected and they were quality checked. On studying the result in labs, it was identified to contain coliform bacteria. As carrots are mostly had without any processing methods, the vegetable’s microbial content may carry some risk factor with it which in turn may lead to risk factors to the consumer. It may even worsen into gastrointestinal disease.
Results published in a recent research article by students of Mannar gudi based Sengamala Thayaar educational trust women’s college states that heavy metals and coliform bacteria are present in vegetables including carrot, beetroot, potato and tomato.
The study researchers cite inflow of raw sewage water into agricultural fields with proper processing is the reason behind such toxic metals on vegetables.
