Less than a fortnight after Aavin increased the price of milk by Rs 10 a litre, private producers have announced a hike of Rs 4 to Rs 6 a litre. This is the third price revision by private players this year. Now, milk sold by private packagers costs Rs 47 to Rs 52, while that of Aavin is Rs 37 a litre.

Dodla Milk Chennai manager M Muthiah said, “The procurement price paid by Aavin and private producers are more or less the same, and dairy farmers are hesitant to supply milk to us.“

Similarly , Heritage, another popular brand, will increase the price of standard milk from Rs 44 to Rs 48 and that of premium from Rs 48 to Rs 54.
