World Diabetes day falls on November 14 of every year. This was introduced by International Diabetes Federation and World Health Organization upon observing increasing cases of diabetes across the world. Ever since its introduction in 1991, the day has been celebrated every year.
In a camp organized at Stanley Hospital, Dr. Meenakshi Sundaram belonging to the hospital says there are over 65 million (6.5 crore) diabetic patients in India.
On the occasion of World Diabetes day, an awareness check-up camp was organized at Stanley Hospital yesterday (November 14). It was headed by Meenakshi Sundaram in which more than 100 patients and public took part, and got benefitted. Below is an excerpt from the speech given by Dr. Meenakshi Sundaram:
In our country India, there are over 65 million diabetic patients. Out of this whole mass of diabetics, 20 per cent of them attained the disease following troubles with blood pressure. In case of diabetics, 3 to 5 per cent of them with blockage in blood vessels are prone to removal of legs. Stanley Hospital has all required facilities and equipments necessary to treat patients with blockage in blood vessel, she said.
The camp saw participation from Dr. Subramanian, department of vascular surgery, Professor Subashree, diabetes department and several others.
