Healthy Food Recipes - RAGI & PEANUT SWEET / SIMILI BALLS

INGREDIENTS:
  • Ragi Flour / Finger Millet Flour : 200 grams cups
  • Peanuts : 200 grams  
  • Grated Jaggery : 200 grams
  • Salt : a pinch
  • Water : as required
METHOD:
  1. Take Ragi flour in a large mixing bowl, add salt. Now pour water little by little and form a soft dough. This will form into crumbs. The crumbs should not be dry, it should form into a tight ball when you hold it and it should crumble when you drop it. (This preparation should be similar to puttu dough)
  2. Steam boil this flour using the Idli pan. Allow it to boil for 15 minutes. (It is advisable to use thin cotton cloth for placing the ragi flour inside the idli pan)

  4. You might get small morsels of ragi flour once boiled. Grind it in the mixer, so as to crumble it.
  5. Roast the peanuts until golden brown colour and cool. Remove its skin.
  6. Grind the peanut along with the grated Jaggery in the mixer and make it as a fine powder.

  8. Combine the ragi flour and peanut and Jaggery powder in a wide bowl and mix very well.
  9. Shape the mixture into small round balls and store in an airtight container.

Note:
  • You can very well use this ragi balls till 2 to 3 days from the day of preparation.
  • In village, people are used to prepare this ragi sweet ,where jiggery, peanuts and ragi flour are blended on a stone grinder (aatukkal) using a ulakkai , traditionally.
  • Ragi, one among the best small millets contains many health benefits for us.
  • As this ragi sweet balls hold both ragi and peanut, definitely it will be a healthy evening snack for your kids!
