Statistics: Tamil Nadu is ranking 3rd and 4th in the per capita and per month consumption of power in both rural and urban regions of the country.
Besides battling power shortage, Tamil Nadu is ranking 3rd and 4th in per capita and per month power consumption. According to the recent scenario produced by the National Sample Survey Organization, Tamil Nadu is taking the leading place in among 20 major states in the country for consuming huge amount of household power.
Monthly per capita power consumption in the state’s urban region is 36.4 units and 17.016 units in rural regions, which is against 25.837 units and 8.923 units of average national consumption.
However, compared to TN, Himachal Pradesh is consuming higher which is of the range 48.637 units in urban regions and 31.887 units in rural regions. Kerala stands next with the household consumption of 17.767 units which is higher than Tamil Nadu.
According to the experts, this increase in per capital power consumptions indicates development in the economy of the state.
The per capita annual power consumption in 2013-2014 in the state is 1,196 units; it was 1065 units in 2012-2013.
