‘Paarukkulle nalla naadu engal bharadha naadu’

His patriotism towards the nation was boundless. Each of his patriotic words keeps reflecting the essence of Bharathiyar every time we read them. He did elevate the privilege of his mother tongue Tamil citing it as the best of all languages known to him.

Bharathiyar the eternal poet belonging to our nation was born on this day 133 years ago. Here is our tribute to the Mundasu Kavignar!

Today is his 133rd birthday. This renowned man was born in the year 1882 at Ettayapuramm. His parents are Chinnasami Iyer and Lakshmi Ammal. He never did achieve the poetic touch as he grew, rather he was born with it. And that ‘within’ talent in him titled him ‘Bharathi’ right when he was 5 years in age. He then got married to Chellamma during when he was 14.

He got his school education in Thirunelveli and travelled to Kaasi to get his higher education. He then got to learn Sanskrit, English and various other languages. It was from then that he started using turban on head.
