The last date for exchanging Rs. 500 & Rs. 1000 currency notes printed before 2005 expires on 1st January!

The facility for the public to exchange their Rs. 500 & Rs. 1000 currency notes printed before 2006 expires on 1st January.

Hence, public are reminded to exchange these notes before the expiry date.

So far, currency notes worth Rs. 52,855 Crores have been exchanged.

Regional RBI offices have exchanged Rs. 100 currency notes worth Rs. 75.2 Crores, Rs. 500 currency notes worth Rs. 51.85 Crores, and Rs. 1000 currency notes worth Rs. 19.61 Crores.

The system of printing the year of manufacture on the backside of the currency was started after 2005. In the currency notes printed before 2005, the year of printing will not be available. So, the old notes can be easily identified.
