Hand-written passports to expire by 24th November, 2015!

As per the directive given by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), it has been decided that all hand-written passports will expire by 24th November, 2015.

The press release from Chennai Regional Passport Office:

ICAO has decided that only passports valid for automatic checking would be allowed from the future.

Old hand-written passports will not be valid and these passport holders will not be allowed to travel.

Hence, order has been issued that all hand-written passports will expire by 24th November

The department of the Ministry of External Affairs has advised that these hand-written passport holders may surrender the old passport & get new ones.

Chennai Regional Passport office is engaged in the task of reissue of passport on a war-footing.

The travellers to foreign countries need to ensure that their passports are valid at least for the next 6 months.

The passport holders with 20-year facility will also have to surrender them and get new passports with 10-year validity.

Frequent foreign travellers may surrender their passports and get new ones ‘jumbo’ passports with 64 pages.

 A special camp is being conducted on this regard on Saturday, 27th December, at the Passport Kendra in Shaligramam.
