There have been frequent and well-distributed rains throughout Tamil Nadu during the North-east monsoon season from October.
In the city of Chennai, though the amount of rain has been comparatively more than last year, the water levels in the main drinking water reservoirs did not go up. This led to the situation to estimate the available water would be sufficient only for the next 3 months.
However, there has been rainfall in the last 2 days caused by the recent depression in Tamil Nadu coastal areas including Chennai city. This has filled up the reservoir water levels.
