The Managing Director of the State Tourism Development Corporation had applied to the Tamil Nadu State Government requesting for permission to conduct the Tourism Trade Fair for the year 2014-15 at Islands Grounds.
This is the 41st Tourist Trade Fair.
Tamil Nadu State government had allotted Rs. 75 Lakhs for the 40th Tourism Fair. However, with the current increase in cost of living and workers’ wages, the Managing Director has requested for allotment of Rs. 1.05 Crores.
The state government scrutinised the application and granted permission for conducting the Trade Fair. It allotted a fund of Rs. 86.5 Lakhs for the various government stalls.
The Trade Fair is set to start tomorrow – Saturday, 3rd January.
The inauguration of the Trade Fair will be at 5.30 PM and Ministers Valarmathi, Gokula Indira, and Shanmuganathan are expected to participate.
Space has been allotted for 50 government stalls. Provisions has been made for 120 smaller private shops and 50 larger private shops. Permission has also been granted for entertainment parks & amusements.
A highlight of the fair will be the exact replica of ‘Snow Lingam’ at Amarnath Cave temple. This is set to be ready by 3rd January. The devotees will now have the chance to pray almost like visiting Amarnath temple for a Darshan of the snow lingam. Arrangements such as provision for washing feet, etc have been made.
