The first unit of 210 MW capacity in the North Chennai Thermal Power Station had to be shut down due to some repairs in the boiler. This has created a shortfall of 210 MW in power generation.
Sudden failure occurred in the conveyor system carrying coal to the 1st Unit boiler tubes and the unit was shut down.
Repair work has been taken up immediately. The CEO of Tamil Nadu Electricity distribution System is scheduled to visit the North Chennai Power Station for inspection. The local officials informed that efforts are under way to restore operation of the 1st Unit before this visit.
Previously, there was a fire accident in the 2nd Unit of 600 MW capacity which is also out of operation. It has not been repaired so far.
