Larger quantities of vegetable have been arriving at the Chennai Koyambedu vegetable market leading to fall in the vegetable prices.
During the recent Pongal festive season, the quantity of vegetable reaching Koyambedu was somewhat less. This led to a slight increase in the prices of vegetables. This also led to a shortage of vegetables in local suburban retail vegetable market.
However, following the end of Pongal festival, there has been an increase in the quantity of vegetables reaching Koyambedu. This has led to some fall in the vegetable prices.
Brinjal, which sold at Rs. 80/- per kg during Pongal, now sells at Rs. 60/- per kg. The prices of beans fell from Rs. 35/- per kg to Rs. 30/- per kg. Broad beans prices fell from Rs. 50/- to Rs. 30/- per kg. Tomato price fell from Rs. 20/- to Rs. 15/- per kg.
However, since the quantity of onions reaching Koyambedu has not increased, it is being sold at Rs. 25/- per kg. It was sold at Rs. 20/- per kg before Pongal.
