The owners of the gas-tanker vehicles have started strike from midnight (31st January) since the last discussions regarding their demands failed.
This may lead to disturbance in the distribution of gas cylinders in 5 states including Tamil Nadu.
LPG cooking gas cylinders are being distributed by over 3250 gas-tanker vehicles on a daily basis in 5 Southern states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra, and Kerala.
The lease contract is being renewed once in 3 years. The last period of lease expired on 31st October and should have been renewed on 1st November. However, the new lease agreement is yet to be made. Protests were conducted in several stages.
Following this, there was a discussion at Chennai Egmore between Oil Corporations & the gas-tanker owners for 3 days. 10 high-level officials from oil corporations and 30 representatives from oil-tanker owners’ association participated in the discussion. The talks failed. The gas-tanker owners went on strike from midnight (31st January).
