With the planets Venus & Mars set to approach each other, the planet Jupiter will look larger and brighter for the next 2 weeks starting from today (3rd February).
The spectacular sight will, start from today.
When the sky turns dark enough, we can clearly spot the bright Jupiter on the left side of the Full Moon.
Even though Venus & Mars may seem to be very close together, there will be some gap. However, the sight of them together will be bright & quite interesting to observe.
A close watch would reveal their movements together from the East to the West. 2015 is the year when the Sun, Jupiter, and Earth fall in a straight line. Jupiter will be close to the planet earth.
When watching through telescopes, Jupiter will appear very large & very bright. Jupiter’s appearance in the sky can be noticed at around 6.22 PM. Only when the shadow of Callister falls on Jupiter, the shadow of Jupiter can be clearly seen. This can be seen clearly at 7.11 PM in the moonlight.
Callister is the 3rd largest moon of Jupiter. The shadows of the moons Callister & Io will join at 8.35 PM.
Jupiter’s moon, Io, is a little larger than the Earth’s moon.Around 10.27 PM, the third shadow, that of Europa, will join these 2 shadows. These 3 shadows can be seen together near the moon until 10.52 PM,
They will be on view for 25 minutes.
After this time, the shadow of Io will not remain.
This phenomenon of seeing 3 shadows together can be seen next time only in 2032!
So, don’t miss seeing this!
