Following the petition submitted by Star Corporation to Delhi High Court and its enquiry, Doordarshan was asked to stop telecasting of the World Cup Cricket Matches.
This was appealed by Prasar Bharathi to the Supreme Court which stopped the ban imposed by the Delhi High Court.
During the enquiry of Prasar Bharathi’s appeal, the Supreme Court had asked whether Doordarshan can start a separate channel for telecasting the World Cup cricket matches.
Yesterday, the case was taken up. Prasar Bharathi replied that a new channel for this purpose cannot be started. With the completion of the enquiry, Supreme court postponed the announcement of the verdict.
