APPROVAL FOR METRO RAIL PROJECT ON AIRPORT TAXIWAY IS STILL AWAITED

In another case of bad project planning, metro rail corridor near the airport is in change of alignment. As per revised plan, the metro rail will cut about Nine meters into the secondary runaway of the airport, which is anticipated to hamper the smooth take off at the Gundy end, on the taxiway ‘Juliet’. The large aircraft, freighters, B747 and B777 passenger jets and fully loaded A320 normally would require moving longer on the runaway to a smooth take off, especially when they carry heavy loads.

It seems like the metro officials are going to give the AAI any option but to surrender the space required by them. The metro officials now say that it because of budget constraint. In such event the AAI will have to alternative arrangement at a huge cost. Any way it will be again public money from another account.

At least the officials of the metro rail should keep in mind the safety, which should be paramount when choosing options.
