Design of the flyover that connects South West Boag Road junction with Habibullah Road on Usman road was recently studied and the detailed report was approved by the Chennai Corporation on Thursday. The overall cost of the project is Rs. 240 crore. This project is to be constructed as a part of woks to connect Anna Salai and Mahalingapuram.
Woks to modify the existing flyover on South Usman Road for constructing the 2.2km length flyover will be started soon by the civic body. However, the flyover on Mahalingapuram will remain the same without any modification. The flyover construction work will be carried out in two phases, say civic body officials. While the first phase will involve construction of 1795 meters of the flyover running through Habibullah Road Junction and Madley Road Junction of Usman Road consuming time period of 12 months, the second one will cover the remaining 427m covering Srinivasa Reddy Street Junction to Madley Road Junction and this will consume 6 months time, say sources. Noise barriers will also be commissioned by the Chennai corporation and alternative technology will be implemented for bringing down the level of pollution. Level of air pollution will also be monitored in six varied location when the project is on the go.
