Railway helpline flooded with calls

Posted on: 10/Mar/2015 12:58:23 PM
In the 2015 Railway Budget it was announced that 138 helpline will be launched. Now after the introduction of this helpline the Chennai division of Southern Railways gets up to 500 calls but 90 per cent of them are about train running and berth reservation status. This can be resolved by dialling 139, the already existing helpline.

The 138 helpline was started to register voice complaints on coach cleanliness, food and catering, bed linen given to passengers, as well as to seek emergency medical care when needed.

However, only 10 per cent of callers have complained on those.

Most of the valid complainants on 138 reported non-functioning electrical appliances on trains, the divisional officials said. They urged the public to make proper use of 138.

Passengers could also register their complaints and suggestions on the web portal http://www.coms.indianrailways.gov.in/criscm/cmsHome.html or by SMS on 9717680982.
