Responding to petroleum dealers` call to observe half-day bandh on April 11 across India, The Tamil Nadu Petroleum Dealer’s Association (TNPDA) has called for a no-purchase day on April 11 while retail outlet workers will work only for 12 hours (6 am-6 pm).
Motorists may have to fill up their tanks before 6pm on Saturday as the petroleum dealers of state-owned oil companies will observe a token strike from 6pm on Saturday till 6am on Sunday as part of a nationwide strike.
The CIPD (Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers) had earlier announced a follow-up similar strike on April 17 and 18 and for an indefinite period from April 27, but now, it has been decided to go ahead with the bandh only on April 11. The association has put forth a list of 10 demands before the oil companies. These include withdrawing decisions like increase in house tax by Municipal Corporation, hike in electricity tariff etc, which have hit their profitability.
Addressing a press meet here on Thursday, Tamil Nadu Petroleum Dealers` Association president K P Murali said they would not purchase petrol and diesel from oil companies on Saturday. He stated that the strike would cause an excise duty loss of Rs 300 crore. “It will also mean a revenue loss of Rs 725 crore to oil marketing companies (OMCs),” he said.
