Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) President, Mr. Surendra Mohan, informed that the state of Tamil Nadu will receive an additional 1200 MW through new thermal power station generation units before the end of 2017.

In the NLC 2nd thermal expansion project, all technical problems encountered in the 2nd unit have been rectified and a generation of 250 MW has started.

The 3rd unit of this power station, set to restart in a few days, will provide 250 MW. A power generation of 1000 MW will start from Tuticorin Thermal Plant. Out of this, 500MW from Tuticorin & 250 MW from Neyveli will be given to the state of Tamil Nadu.

The first unit of 600 MW which is now in operation, will be shut down gradually. A new thermal plant, built at a cost of Rs. 5990 Crores, will replace this old unit and will start generating 1000 MW by 2017. This will be entirely meant for Tamil Nadu.

Currently, 2900 MW is being generated at NLC.

By the end of May, this will increase to 4200 MW.
