Railways launch app for paperless ticket bookings in Chennai division

Mobile ticket bookings have been enabled for unreserved tickets over suburban sections in Chennai division of Southern railway.

Presently Two types of suburban tickets could be booked through Mobile phones viz

  1. Paper ticket through ATVM (Physical ticket).
  2. Paperless ticket (Virtual ticket)
For travel o­n Chennai Beach -  Chengalpattu, Chennai Beach/Chennai Central – Tiruvallur, Chennai Beach/Chennai Central – Gummidipundi and Chennai Beach -  Velachery sections, passengers booking tickets through their Mobile phones must take a printout of their ticket through ATVM before commencing journey, provided the journey is not commencing and ending within Chennai Egmore and  Tambaram stations (both inclusive) for which paperless ticket/virtual ticket is allowed.

The user will be given a o­ne Time Password (OTP) through SMS which has to be used for taking the Printout of ticket from the ATVM installed at the journey commencing station. This ATVM ticket print-out/Physical ticket should be shown to ticket checking staff whenever asked during travel as well as at the exit gate.

Passenger who wants to commence and complete his journey within any railway station between Chennai Egmore and Tambaram (both inclusive) for travel by suburban   trains could book his/her ticket through Mobile and the ticket will be made available instantly in his mobile itself. This virtual ticket has to be shown to the ticket checking staff whenever asked and thus the passenger need not take any print out of the ticket.

Travelling Public booking suburban ticket through Mobile are hereby advised that  they have to book and show the virtual ticket or physical ticket as the case maybe as stated in the above paragraphs.

Passenger who does not show the virtual ticket or paper ticket (printout) from ATVM o­n demand by ticket checking staff, he/she will be treated as without ticket and has to pay penal charges as per extant rule.
