Agni nakshatram is the season when the sun will be at its peak. Now this agni nakshatram`, regarded as the hottest spell during summer according to the Hindu almanac, the India meteorological department said the mercury level continued to be around normal without any significant rise.

Weather experts say weak winds from the west and a gush of sea breeze in the afternoon has helped keep temperatures low.

The Met office has forecast the temperature to touch 37°C next week and says it could well breach the 40°C mark by the third week of May if not earlier.
