World famous Poondi Matha festival from today

The scared flag is being unfurled in the world famous Poondi Matha Basilica near Tirukattupalli in Thanjavur district commences on Wednesday on the occasion of the annual festival. The festival would go on till May 15.
The Bishop of Kumbakonam Diocese Anthonysamy will hoist the sacred flag to signal the commencement of the festivities. Special mass prayers would be celebrated during the festival days. Aspects of Mariology would be explained to the devotees during the special prayer meetings.
The special decorated chariot festival would be conducted on the night of May 14 followed by a mass headed by the Bishop.
