Railways very recently are planning to cash in for increasing need for tickets by providing ‘Tatkal special’ trains during busy seasons. Travelling by the same is sure to be expensive than on regular trains.
According to senior ministry official of the Railways, special trains having tatkal fares are sure to help the public transporter that is cash strapped on specific busy routes. While trains tickets for premium trains have been priced as per dynamic fare structure and operational already, Tatkal Special trains are sure to be an additional service that is to cater to meet the growing rush.
For Tatkal service ticket, the passengers have to shelve out more money, since it is much higher than that of normal fares, ranging around Rs. 175 to Rs. 400. Tatkal rate is about basic fare’ 10% in Second Class, while other classes are 30%, including AC category.
For Premium trains, tickets can be booked only online, but for Tatkal Special tickets, it will be available online and railway ticket counter as well. Advance reservation period is also relaxed by Railways for such special trains.
Tatkal ticket presently can be booked just 24 hours journey. However, for the special Tatkal train, the reservation period would be minimum of 10 days to maximum of 60 days. An official quoted that CRIS has been developing software for it and once ready, special Tatkal trains would be launched on specific routes.
