A new study has analyzed the reason behind the inheritance of obesity and diabetes and a deeper insight is provided on the issue. In obese mothers, their child’s cells are made to accumulate extra fat or create new differences in metabolism that can result in resistance to insulin. Stem cells were taken from umbilical cords of dono babies who weighed normal and the mothers of whom were obese. These were then made to grow and develop into muscles in laboratory. The researchers found about 30 per cent increased fat content in both the cell types in the mothers’ offspring compared to that of cells of normal weighing mothers.
