Metro Rail ticket fare to be released during the first week of July

Officials of Chennai Metro Rail have mentioned that the ticket fare for the metro rail will be officially announced during the first week of July. The fares could range between Rs. 10 and Rs. 40. Metro Rail is being constructed in two lines for a distance of 45 kms at a cost of Rs 20 Crore. In the first phase, the metro rail will be operated between Koyambedu and Alandur.
An higher official of Metro Rail while speaking said, “ A tariff committee was formed when the metro rail work commenced in the year 2009. That committee fixed the rate based on Delhi Metro. In the present situation, the minimum fare would be fixed at Rs 10. The rates will be based according to the kilometers. The ticket rates will be officially announced during the first week of July. There will no season tickets. It has also been decided to issue tokens and smart cards to the commuters. No concessional tickets will be issued.”
