The department of police in Chennai has stated that rules for wearing helmet compulsorily will be brought into effect from 1st of June 2015. They add that the rules will be strictly followed from the day.
It is said that the one who drives a two wheeler and also the pillion need to wear helmet failing which the driving license of the driver and registration certificate of the bike will be seized. All seized documents will be sent for the court for further legal procedures and for these formalities, photocopies of the documents will not be accepted, say sources.
For those who do not have original documents, the two wheeler will be seized temporarily. On providing the original documents later on, the bike will be given back and the original documents will be sent for further procedures.
Those who disobey the rule will have to purchase an ISI certified helmet and provide the receipt at the court for getting back the original documents, say Chennai police officials.
