Of course, there are several advantages with the introduction of mass transit system like that of metro that is recently launched in Chennai. Though it has numerous benefits including lowering of pollution level, and reducing energy requirements, the fullest of its benefits can be reaped only by providing a seamless connectivity.
In order to get the fullest of its benefits, providing auxiliary services such as feeder buses is essential. As a step to achieve this, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation has kick-started its operations of providing 18 small buses connecting metro stations with seven main routes. This however is a very small step as compared to the routes encompassed by the metro.
As the metro service between Koyambedu and Alandur is along the metro, additional support is needed to comfort the commuters and drive them to opt for metro services. Feeder buses alone cannot suffice. There should be good availability of regular buses and share autos as well and that too should be in sync with the availability of metro train and its timings. This is important as there are several metro stations without enough parking facility.
