As per the order that 14 courts currently functioning in Egmore should be shifted temporarily to the Moore Market Complex before 31st July. 2 courts have been shifted in the 1st phase. Other courts will also be shifted in the coming few days.
There are 14 courts functioning in the court complex in Egmore Adithanar Road. It was decided to partly rebuild and partly renovate this building complex.
Government reserved Rs. 10.83 Crores of funds for this purpose. The time schedule for renovation was fixed as 15 months. For this period of 15 months, various courts functioning in this complex including Chennai Metro Criminal department Justice Council, additional 2 head courts, 8 justice department councils, and 2 fast courts will be shifted temporarily to Moore Market complex. The 2nd & 3rd floors of the Moore Market Complex have been allocated for this purpose.
As there were complaints about inordinate delays in the shifting activities, Chennai High Court issued a recent order to expedite this and complete immediately. As per this order, the 6th Section of the Department of Justice council & 13th Justice council have both been shifted to Moore Market complex and have started functioning in the new place.
The inside circles informs that the balance 12 courts will also get shifted to Moore Market Complex before 31st July.Once, the courts start functioning in the new place, the Egmore Court Complex will be handed over to PWD (Public Works Department) and the construction activities will commence for the new building.
