The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has given clearance for a new private air freight station at Irungattukottai. Air cargo will now to be offloaded from the aircraft and sent straight to the freight station. The move is said to make freight clearance faster and more efficient.
Say authorities, ‘Airports Authority of India (AAI) gave a licence to operate the freight station at the existing inland container depot to decongestant the airport`s cargo terminal. Clearance will be quick and importers will save 20% to 25% of the cost due to speed and efficiency... It takes six days for a consignment to be cleared if it is done inside the cargo terminal, but the time can be cut to three days if it is done at the air freight station. The station will have facilities for post-shipment and pre-shipment formalities including customs clearance.’
