Yesterday evening rains brought great relief to Chennaites who were suffering from sweltering heat.
The city has been witnessing hot weather for the last few days due to westerly winds which have been delaying the onset of the sea breeze along the city coast.
The showers are due to convective activities of the winds which would be circulating moisture and heat from the land to clouds bringing rain.
The forecast for the next 48 hours for the city is that the sky would be generally cloudy. Rain or thundershowers would occur in some areas, with the maximum temperature being around 40 and minimum temperature at 28 degrees.
